Jawahar tunnel avalanche: Seven dead, three rescued alive, one missing | KNO

Qazigund, February 08 (KNO) : Seven persons were recovered dead while three were rescued alive and one person remained untraced in the avalanche hit area at Jawahar Tunnel in Qazigund village of Kulgam district on Friday. According to KNO correspondent, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Mohammad Younus Malik said that seven bodies have been retrieved from the site while as three persons were rescued alive. “Three persons were recovered alive while one more person is missing and operation to trace him is going on," Malik said. Officials told KNO that a massive snow avalanche had hit the police post at Jawahar tunnel on Thursday evening burying ten policemen on duty under it. Authorities quickly launched rescue operation and had to initially face tough weather conditions in the area but later intensified the search for the missing cops. Officials added that the bodies of two prisoners who were also trapped in the avalanche were among the seven dead bodies recovered from the debris of avalanche. Later, the deceased were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Parrey SG Fire man No:-1571, HC (Fire Service), Driver Firdous Ahmad No:- 181, CT Arshad Gul 1000/ Kgm, HC Muzafer 125/ Kgm, Shabnam of (Dog squad.), Vikram Singh, son of Kalvender Singh of Salan Talab Udhampur, Baljeet Singh, son of Hari Singh of Dera Baba Nanak Gurdaspore Punjab. Those who were rescued alive have been identified as SPO Mohammed Khalil of (Dog Squad), SPO Gh Nabi @ Gulzar 305/K while as officials said that the missing cop has been identified as Sg.Ct Parvez Ahmad 220/ Kgm.(KNO)
